MSc PMBE: best student prize 2014

The prize for best all round student on the MSc Project Management in the Built Environment (PMBE) is sponsored by Bidwells, one of the UK's leading property consultants which was established in Cambridge in 1839 by members of the Bidwell family. This year, the prize was awarded to Djibril Diawara, who completed the MSc PMBE in September 2013 and graduated in June 2014. Derek Farrow, Partner at Bidwells, presented the cheque (for £250).

Our Head of Department, Professor Joe Tah joins in to congratulate Djibril

The MSc PMBE isn't the first course that Djibril has successfully completed at Oxford Brookes. I'll let him tell the story:

I am originally from Mali in West Africa and I have been at Oxford Brookes for six years. My academic life started in February 2008 when I enrolled on a Foundation Course which I successfully completed in August 2008. In September 2008 I enrolled for the BSc Construction Project Management which I successfully completed in June 2012. To learn more about how to apply my knowledge to project management I decided to enrol for the MSc Project Management in the Built Environment. It was a great course that suited all the criteria I was looking for in a postgraduate programme.

Oxford Brookes enjoys a unique location in Oxford, which is a vibrant and multi-cultural university city. At Brookes as well as in Oxford a student can meet people from all over the world which contributes to building a network of friends, colleagues and workmates which are very essential for life.

The MSc PMBE was a challenging and enjoyable course. From day one there are deadlines that pop out and you need to keep up with the demands by working hard till the end. As a student group we got on very well together, we organised ourselves and had fun together whenever we could to relieve the pressure of our academic work. Usually, we all met at a friend’s house for a meal. Some would bring the ingredients; others the drinks and we worked as a team in cooking the food and then ate as a family around a table while listening to great sounds of music.

I did my dissertation on 'Building Information Modelling in Sustainable Building Performance Assessment'. I am very passionate about BIM as I feel this is where the industry is heading. I did my undergraduate dissertation on BIM as well, so in my MSc I wanted to further my knowledge by using BIM in a real life project.

After all these years studying at university I can gladly say that though it was long, it was definitely worth it.

The PMBE team were very pleased to hear that Djibril has secured a position at the SEDIMA Group, based in Dakar (Senegal). Djibril will be working as an Assistant Project Manager for BATIX, the construction branch of SEDIMA. Congratulations!
