Constructing Excellence Oxford Club

On 7 November 2013, the Constructing Excellence Oxford Club in partnership with Oxford Brookes University presented its first prize for student achievement to Abdel Elhachemi, a recent graduate now working for Bouygues UK

Abdel was presented with a trophy (and a cheque!) by George Blumberg (Department of Real Estate and Construction, Oxford Brookes University and Chairman of the Oxford Club). Abdel graduated with a first class degree in Construction Project Management in June 2013 and was rewarded for his services to industry and to student life as well as his academic achievements.

George Blumberg noted that "Abdel is the ideal first recipient of the Constructing Excellence Award. Besides being a top student, he threw himself into student life, helping to revive the Construction Society at the University. He also contributed to our departmental quality assurance reviews and provided us with a steady supply of useful and carefully considered suggestions."

The TS Eliot Lecture Theatre in Merton College was completed in 2010 and won the project consultants, Ridge, the prestigious Oxford Preservation Trust Awards in 2011 in the New Building Category. Adrian Kite, Architect and project leader from Ridge led a tour of the building and describe the often tricky aspects of the project. The building is situated between existing 1930’s buildings in Rose Lane. Care was taken in the design to ensure that the new building provided a sympathetic addition, responding to the scale of the existing buildings with appropriate massing and materials. For more information on the project take a look here.
