School of the Built Environment Graduation 2017

Graduation 2017 took place on one of the hottest days of the year, Monday 19 June. The actual ceremony took place in a transformed sports centre and the reception in the beautiful grounds of Headington Hill Hall. Which meant that the students and staff had to walk across Headington Hill Bridge...and I was there to catch them.

Where's everybody gone? Retreating into the shade as the day got hotter...

School of the Built Environment: Graduation 2016

Graduation 2016 for students in the School of the Built Environment took place on Tuesday 21 June. It was a grey day (no rain though), but the atmosphere was sunny. A very happy occasion. The story of the day in photos (photos by the Ed):

The graduation ceremonies moved to the Sports Hall this year due to the redevelopment work taking place on campus. It was only a short walk from the JHB Building though...

...and just look what had happened to the inside of the Sports Hall. Amazing.

After coming out of the back door and rating their graduation experience...

...they walked over Headington Hill bridge to a reception in the grounds of Headington Hill House.

The Ed stood on the bridge for a while...

...and took a few photos. Find more in the SBE Graduation Album on Facebook.

Real Estate and Construction Ball 2015

One week before the REC Ball and the venue (the Randolph Hotel) goes up in flames. Apparently caused by a beef stroganoff being flambĂ©ed with a bit too much cognac. The hunt was on for an alternative venue and following an epic re-organisation, the REC Ball took place on 24 April as planned, at the Kassam Stadium.

Over 200 tickets were sold and a charity raffle was organised in aid of the Mark Evison Foundation. Mark was a 2006 real estate graduate who died in 2009 from wounds he received in Helmand.

OBRESS (Oxford Brookes Real Estate Student Society) and OBUCS (Oxford Brookes University Construction Society) also secured sponsorship from CBRE, Savills, Montagu Evans, Carter Jonas, Cushman and Wakefield, Deloitte, Jackson Rowe, Martin and Co., Longcross, Estates Gazette and Symm.

These photos (taken by Gina Dalton) will give you a flavour of the night's events (at the Kassam) - we have no photos of the after-party (maybe a good thing)...

This is what it looked like before...

Michael Hill in conversation (avoiding the dance floor).

The raffle (with Rebecca Gee and James Bircumshaw).
The end (with Michael Hill, Charlotte Browning, Gina Dalton and Daniel Vicars).

Not bad for a football stadium.

After the Finals: a few beers...

Last week, the final year students on the BSc Construction Project Management and the BSc Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management finished their exams and the staff took them for a drink down at the White Horse in Headington. I went along and took a few photos.

Next stop: graduation. And if any of our graduates are reading this - don't forget to join the alumni group on LinkedIn: Oxford Brookes Construction, QS and Project Management.
